Bravery and Greed has been developed from the ground up to be a 4-player cooperative experience, and there is nothing wrong with that if there is a community to support it.
Unfortunately, for many gamers finding four friends who want to play the same niche game is difficult, and they must rely on finding public lobbies, which in the case of Bravery and Greed do not exist.
I have been watching for public lobbies on Bravery and Greed and have seen exactly one open lobby on PC, and even that lobby contained just one player.
What makes this all the more frustrating is when played as a cooperative title, Bravery and Greed is well-balanced, rewarding, and offers a sizable amount of highly replayable challenging content, however when attempted as a solo player with AI followers, Bravery and Greed quickly becomes an unbalanced nightmare with AI that will frequently walk into enemy attacks and get stuck on walls.
During a recent playthrough, I watched as my AI companions huddled in the corner during a boss fight as the boss ate away at their XP with easily avoidable attacks; as a result, playing solo feels unfair, and while its possible, Bravery and Greed is not rewarding enough to make all that effort feel worthwhile.
AI and matchmaking issues aside, Bravery and Greed is one of the best roguelikes I have played, with smooth combat, gorgeous visuals, a massive pool of loot and a huge variety of enemies with unique attack patterns and special abilities.
Bravery and Greed offers a huge among of content for a relatively low price, and the presence of arcana cards allows players to modifier future runs with a wide array of positive and negative effects, ranging from additional enemy difficulty and gold to game-changing additions such as all members of a team sharing a single health pool, allowing stronger players to carry less skilled friends and AI companions.
Let’s get this out of the way, the way Tarot Cards (Arcana) work in Bravery and Greed is nothing like their real-world counterparts; however, their presence for some is problematic, with roughly 4 billion people alive today belonging to religions which have a dim view on Tarot Cards and their association with the occult and more commonly charlatans who defraud vulnerable people with card readings by taking advantage of people who have recently lost a relative or who are going through mental health issues.
I am a follower of Christ and do not agree with the real-world act of reading tarot cards; however their function in Bravery and Greed is little more than modifiers, and I have no issue with their presence, despite wishing the developers had opted for a name with less negative connotations

Fortunately for fans of Bravery and Greed, when asked about future content, a developer revealed a glimpse of Rekka Games’ plans.
This once again ties any future content to the success of Bravery and Greed, which is entirely fair considering that Rekka Games is a small team and Team17 predominantly works with smaller developers.
While we don’t know exactly how many people play Bravery and Greed due to neither the publisher nor developer releasing player numbers, it is believed to have sold poorly, a theory which is reinforced by the fact it failed to reach 800 (775) concurrent users during its launch window

Bravery and Greed is a fantastic cooperative title without an audience. As a result, it is unenjoyable for solo players due to its substandard companion AI and difficulty balanced around multi-characters being controlled by real players.
