While Ultimate Zombie Defense 2 is a cheap and nasty version of Call of Duty’s legendary Zombie mode, however, that isn’t entirely bad.

As a fan of indie developers and zombie games, Ultimate Zombie Defense 2 should have been right up my alley, and yet, from the moment I started playing, I could think of nothing else but “this is a much worse version of Call of Duty Zombies”.

While the original Ultimate Zombie Defense did its own thing and created a pretty solid hybrid of zombie survival and tower/base defence, Ultimate Zombie Defense 2 is at its core a worse version of Call of Duty Zombies, with a bare-bones base-building system tacked on.

Don’t get me wrong—Ultimate Zombie Defense 2 is playable, fairly fun, and reasonably priced; however, so are many other better games, including several popular entries in the Call of Duty series, including several titles with vastly more active and content-heavy zombie modes and go on sale for around $20 multiple times a year.

For example, Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War has gone on sale for as little as $21.91. While that is a few dollars more expensive than Ultimate Zombie Defense 2, which is $14.99, it offers vastly more content, including a relatively active multiplayer mode, an excellent single-player campaign, and a robust Zombie mode.

Quality issues aside, Ultimate Zombie Defense 2 is not very popular outside Asia (where it is still very unpopular). As a result, it peaked at less than 200 players on launch day and peaks at around 130 players each day as of 2 October 2024, and this figure is expected to plummet as the year progresses.

Final Verdict.

To put it bluntly, Ultimate Zombie Defense 2 is a worse version of better games.

While there is some fun to be had, as someone who has played a fair deal of Call of Duty Zombies mode and enjoyed the first Ultimate Zombie Defense game, Ultimate Zombie Defense 2 just does not excite me, as while it’s inexpensive, you can buy relatively recent Call of Duty games with more active and highly polished zombie modes for a similar price via third-party key sellers or during Steam sales.

As a result, I cannot recommend that anyone pay full price for Ultimate Zombie Defense 2 when so many better games exist at a similar price point.

However, if you can grab it on sale or as part of a bundle for $4 or less, there is some fun to be had, especially if playing with friends or family.
